FrSky, how you not know II.

An important reason of my trips to FrSky whas becouse I was looking forward to the moment that I had the opportunity to peek and see what going on behind the factorys doors, and learn more about the production procces. As I mentioned in the first part of this article,  i got the grand tour of the manufacturing and development facilities, and thereafter she escorted me to the business manager (also a lady) where I got the opportunity to get the awnsers to all of the many questions I had about the production process. Most of these questions where purely technical I and I was able to discuss in great detail with the Product Manager. It should be noted that both were extremly kind and actually know what they are talking about, it was a very pleasant experiance.

Technical facilities and production

The tour of production facilities started in the office of research and development erea. Here as you can probably imagine, I was not allowed to make any pictures. But I can confirm that the technical equipment in this large department (lower half of the factory, you can compare by photographs) is actually on a very high level. I mention that at the time i visited renovation where going on, and these empty floors are used for indoor test flying :)

Development Department Staff also perform test flights outdoors under a variety of weather conditions.

From the research departmant, again layed out in the "open space" style, we went to the production area, here I got a detailing explanation of the various processes used during production, like the type of used technology and differant assebly techniques. FrSky has CNC capability‘s, and these are used to manufactur the hooks on Taranis-E and a variety of other parts. They also owns a line for pouring molds resulting in that the company produces most of the used plastic parts such as radios covers. I whas unable not visited this line  because it is located in another part of the city, besides this I prefer the "clean production" part of the process located in the technology park . Because of the mentioned renovation, currently all product assembly is done in one erea. Upon completion of the renovation, assembly will be spread out over two separate floors.

From factory to you

Production and assembly of FrSky products is done by following precise rules and strickt procedures. The reason of this is not only to increase production efficiency but also to prevent mechanical and/or electronic damage during asembly and improve the overall quallity of the products (fit and finish).

This section is employed by approximately one-third of FrSky’s employees. Individual employees specialize in one particular activity, because of this every product passes through the hands of several people. To make one of the most advanced R/C transmitters on the market, this of course is the Horus X12S.

Assembly Lines for transmitters, Receivers and other small products are done in a remote part of the hall. On the green table you can see several test units of the Horus X12S, which were at the time of my visit in the testing phase.

All production facilities are equipped with modern technology and are kept clean and tidy. Long time FrSky users can’t miss the group of Taranis Plus in the foreground.

One of the many stands with motherboards for Taranis-E. The boards are partially assembled, they have mounted displays, rotary buttons, Bluetooth modules and sliders.

An important part at the end of production is final testing of the finished product, which is done by the quality control department. After the test succeeds the product is packaged and transported to the warehouse.

Whas the Journey to FrSky worth it?

Given the difficulty of the journey, I must say that I do not regret the decision to go for FrSky. Vice versa, from a professional point of view, I considered it important to know the inner workings of the company and learn the latest trends in the production of the RC products that we offer. More importantly it all turned in a human perspective. The people with whom I was in contact for several years, suddenly got a face and voice, and our communication acquired a completely different and welcomed dimension. Personally I think, in todays anonymous world this is of great wealth. I went without pre made assumptions and found China to be a country of incredible possibilities. I learned many new things in terms of Chinese history and and it‘s cultural heritage as well as many unique traditions. But above all, I got my curiosity, explored everything in depth, and met with FrSky face to face.

Wy I'm interested in China?

  • Size - In China, everything is big and spacious.
    .
  • History - Wuxi is a modern city, but its origins still reach deep into history. A reminder of the old days, there are two historical city centers. A scale model of one of them, attach a photo.
  • Cleanliness - the modes of transport and in public places its unbelievably ordered. Pavements and verges of roads are cleaned and ornamental foliage neatly trimmed.
  • Metro - subway trains traveling at high speed and yet you will not feel any bumps, corners and bearly feel acceleration and stops. The platform is secured against falling on to the tracks and boarding and exeting are governed by strict rules, so that no one is being pressured and can comfortably (and quick) get on or off.
  • People - the Chinese are very gentle, considerate, disciplined and humble.
  • Food - an incredibly wide variety of options and combinations. The meals are light, mostly slow cooking. The area around Shanghai is unfortunately not specialized in savory and spicy dishes. The flavors are subtle and rather sweet.
  • Hot water - almost everywhere you are offered  some hot water, either alone or with lemon.
  • Yang mei (Jau mei) - fruits growing on large trees, size and shape resembling litchi. Fruits do not have the shell, they are red, sweet and juicy. This is a seasonal fruit growing only in certain climates. I was lucky that I was in the right time at the right place.
